Description

For successful completion of Conducting 1, candidates must demonstrate and conduct simple mixed meters, clear beat patterns, and preparatory beats; indicate and conduct various changes in tempo; incorporate and convey the intentional use of the non-conducting hand to indicate various musical elements of the selected composition; demonstrate various subdivisions of the beat as well as the ability to change conducting style to indicate the differences of legato to staccato and vice versa. Candidates should be prepared to conduct portions of one score from memory.

Prerequisites

Baton and Basic Techniques of Conducting by Kenneth Phillips (Oxford Press) required and should be read PRIOR to taking this course.  A pre-event video submission is also required. See instruction for the video submission on the course page at certification.handbellmusicians.org/conducting/

Schedule

This course will be offered as one 75-minute general session for all students and a 30-minute one-on-one session for each.

General Session: Saturday, April 21, 11:00 AM Eastern*

One-On-One Sessions: To be scheduled by mutual agreement between instructor and student.  Each student will be contacted by the program coordinator to to schedule their one-on-one session.

Course Fee:

Regular Registration - $165 (not including test)

Member Discounted Fee: $125 (not including test)

Testing will be available at the Handbell Musicians Certification & Instructor Accreditation event in Dallas, Texas, May 31-June 2 or at National Seminar in Grand Rapids, Michigan, July 17-21.
