Congratulations to Grace Luttrell winner of the Kristopher Jon Anthony Memorial Scholarship!

The Kristoper Jon Anthony Memorial Scholarship is awarded by Area 9 to help an individual with registration and expenses for National Seminar. This year’s winner was Grace Luttrell. She represented Area 9 very well in Portland and was honored to be chosen as a member of the All Star Choir.

Here is the narrative from Grace that accompanied her application:

I began playing handbells when I was in the fourth grade, eighteen years ago. I played all through middle school and high school. In college, I continued playing with the University of Southern Mississippi’s Carrillon Handbell choir, under the direction of Dr. Larry Smith. After college, I spent a year ringing with the East Texas Handbell Ensemble under the direction of Arnold Sherman. These years spent playing really solidified my performance skills as a ringer, but now I am in a leadership position and I need to sharpen my skills as a director. I current direct two groups at University Baptist Church Fort Worth: a six-person youth ensemble and a five-octave adult choir. I am hoping to find ideas to be able to carry those groups outside of the church in ministry opportunities as well as expand the program. The variety of classes offered in Portland meet the needs of what I want to accomplish with my groups in the future.
